The Ogun State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has disagreed with the Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta over the recent demand for President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation over the killings in Benue.
The Catholic Diocese recently took to the streets of Abeokuta to protest the murder of two reverend fathers, Felix Tyolaha and Joseph Gor as well as 17 others by suspected herdsmen in Benue.
During the peaceful protest, the Bishop of the Diocese, Peter Odetoyinbo, had asked Buhari to resign because he had failed to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians, particularly the citizens of Benue.
But the Chairman of CAN in the state, Bishop Tunde Akin-Akinsanya, kicked against the call for Buhari’s resignation by the Catholic Bishop, urging the president to step up action to end the killings.
Akin-Akinsanya who was represented by the State Secretary of CAN, Rev Steven Adeyemi, spoke at the official Induction of the newly elected officers of the Women Wing of CAN, saying that the killer herdsmen should be declared terrorists.
The CAN Chairman, while charging Christian faithful to continue to pray for peace to reign in Benue state, stressed that the violence was not to destroy the Christians in the state as Muslims were also killed in the attacks.
