Lagos LG election: NCP accuses LASIEC of working for APC

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission has just been accused by The National Conscience Party of denying its candidates access to registration forms for the upcoming Local Government Area election in Lagos State.

A press statement on Monday by its National General Secretary, Ayodele Akele, the NCP alleged that LASIEC was using “illegal guidelines” to ensure that its 77 candidates did not get registration forms.

The party complained that unlike the Independent National Electoral Commission, LASIEC did not make registration form available online where it could be printed and filled by party candidates.

It alleged that LASIEC was doing the bidding of the ruling All Progressives Congress to impose hand-picked APC candidates on local governments in the state.

“NCP candidates were not given the electoral forms when the NCP Lagos State leadership requested for them, in effect, we have been ostracised along with millions of people that can never meet the conditions imposed by LASIEC.

“It is important to also inform that unlike LASIEC, INEC forms are available online free of charge for party candidates to download fill and submit with the supporting documents.

“In the case of LASIEC, the agency, in spite of billions of naira of public money at its disposal appropriated for the elections, it does not even have a website or serious email address. Why must INEC forms be free and LASIEC forms are not?” the NCP said.

The party also lamented that while July 22 fixed for the election drew closer, a suit it filed before the Lagos State High Court since May 12, 2017, to protest LASIEC’s undemocratic guidelines had not been heard, despite that, an affidavit of urgency was attached to it.
