Lagos’ll continue to invest more in education – Adebule

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, has restated the state’s commitment to invest more in education.

Adebule spoke at the 26th convocation of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu.

According to her, the state would continue to invest substantially in education because no society can develop without education.

“Our mandate is to provide good and conducive environment for learning, from primary to tertiary education, and this has been yielding good fruits and development in the state,” she said.

Commending the polytechnic for sustaining academic excellence over the years, Adebule added that the institution had over the years produced the required and relevant manpower for the state and with the Ready Set Work initiative by the state government, graduates from the institution would not only help to grow the state’s manpower, but create job opportunities.

She, however, said the institution still needed to raise the bar of excellence, enhance the delivery of services and be more competitive even in a harsh but still competitive environment.

While congratulating the graduating students, the deputy governor urged them to be good ambassadors of the institution and the state in general.

On the infrastructural facilities promised by the governor during the last convocation, Adebule said site work would commence soon because the major aim of the government was to provide conducive and secure environment for learning in the institution.

The Rector, Mr. Samuel Sogunro, in his address said with the initiative of the state government the polytechnic was well positioned and poise to partner with the government in addressing many of the challenges affecting the state, in particular, and the country as well.

The rector said the institution needed a perimeter fencing at the Ikorodu campus to preserve the institution’s land from further encroachment, additional personnel, both academic and non-teaching, among others.

He urged the graduating class to make use of the theoretical work and entrepreneurial knowledge acquired in the institution in fulfilling their life ambition.

The best graduating student, Miss Omotoyosi Fatogun,
from the Department of Biochemistry, graduated with a CGPA of 3.81.
