Landlord’s sons defraud father’s tenants

Two siblings have been dragged before a Magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly defrauding two of the tenants living in their father’s house.
The police in the state have accused 48-year-old Azeez Owolabi and Mustapha Owolabi, 55, of duping their father’s tenants – Matthew Oke and Odewole Olayemi – of the sum of N120,000.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Ajayi Sunday, informed the court that the two accused persons committed the offence between the months of March and April at Owode area in Osogbo.
Ajayi said that the siblings conspired and defrauded the complainants of the sum given to them to fix four rooms that were rented by the tenants.
According to the prosecutor, the two brothers promised the tenants that they would complete the four-room apartment rented in their father’s house before they would allow them to move in, but they defaulted after collecting the money from them.
Ajayi noted that the Owolabi brothers also failed to refund the tenants’ money.
However, the prosecutor argued that the accused persons committed the offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 517 and 421 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol. 11, Laws of Osun State, 2003.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the two count – charge of conspiracy and fraud preferred against them.
The defense counsel, Mr. Imran Abdulateef, prayed the court to grant his clients bail in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Olubukola Awodele, granted them bail in the sum of 50,000 with two sureties each.
She adjourned the case to August 9 for hearing.
