A legal practitioner, Hashim Husiani Hashim, has been arraigned before a Kano Chief Magistrate’s court over allegations bordering on defamation of the Kano State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Muhammad Tahir Baba.
Senior state prosecution counsel, Kano Ministry of Justice, Lamido Soron Dinki, informed the court that the defendant posted defamatory video materials on social media handles.
Lamido further stated that the material which the defendant uploaded online maligned the personality of the state commissioner.
The defendant, however, denied the charges filed against him, saying that the content of the charge were not true.
Counsel to the defendant, Yusuf Ammani, applied for bail for the accused lawyer on liberal terms.
Chief Magistrate Hauwa Lawan Minjibir granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500, 000 with two reliable sureties.
The case was adjourned to October 19 for hearing.
