Legal action on Oyo Scout Council to open soon

The suit by the Oyo State Scout Council filed on Monday, August 2, by the leadership of the State Council against some national officers of the Scout Association of Nigeria, has been assigned.

The case against the Chief Commissioner, Dave Padopads-Awunah; his Deputy, Prince Adeolu Oyelami; B.O.A. Oyetayo and Dr. Chukwuekwu Ibe, alongside Moses Tella, Segun Fatope and Edward Adesina, on behalf of the Caretaker Committee appointed by Justices Munta Ladipo Abimbola and Munta Ladipo Abimbola, the Chief Judge of Oyo State, as defendants was reportedly assigned on December 6.

The claimants, in the suit number I/722/2021, are seeking for a declaration that the purported appointment and investiture of Justice Abimbola by the national officers without the concurrence of the Oyo State Scout Council and the Executive Committee of the Oyo State Scout Council is unlawful, illegal and of no effect contrary to the Scouts Constitution.

In addition, they seek a declaration that “all steps and actions, including but not limited to the appointment of Tella, Segun Fatope and Edward Adesina and others by Justice Munta Ladipo Abimbola as Caretaker Committee for Oyo State Scout Council in purported furtherance of the Justice Abimbola’s unlawful appointment and investiture as President of the Oyo State Scout Council are all unlawful, ultra vires, illegal, void and of no effect whatsoever.”

The claimants, including Funso Ogunkeye, Adetunji Adepeju, Bamidele Oladoja and others are seeking an order setting aside all steps and actions, including but not limited to the appointment of Caretaker Committee members by Justice Munta Abimbola and his investiture as President of the Oyo State Scout Council are unlawful, untra vires, illegal, void and of no effect whatsoever, among other reliefs.

Recalled that the matter filed on August 2 only got assigned to High Court 7, Ring Road, Ibadan, after four months in the Court Registry, following a peaceful protest by Scouts who felt intimidated by the prolonged failure to assign the suit.
