Local bourse resumes week negative, as NGX-ASI falls by 0.29 percent

The domestic stock market index slid 0.29 percent to 48,879.74 points at the close of trading on Tuesday, with the Exchange recording more losers (21) than gainers (7).

As a result, the year-to-date gain on the NGX ASI slipped to 14.43 percent.

Notably, INTBREW, UCAP, ACCESSCORP, TRANSCORP, and UBA all suffered losses, with share prices plunging by 9.09 percent, 6.73 percent, 5.59 percent, 5.45 percent, and 3.57 percent, respectively.

Sector performance continued to be dismal, with three of the five indexes tracked closing lower, with the NGX Banking index, NGX Consumer Goods index, and NGX Oil/Gas index dropping by 2.58 percent, 0.41 percent, and 0.34 percent, respectively.

However, the NGX Insurance index increased by 0.42 percent and the NGX Industrial index stayed steady. Meanwhile, market activity was sluggish, with total volume and value falling by 51.37 percent and 36.09 percent, respectively, to 173.46 million units and N2.39 billion.

GTCO was the most active stock in terms of volume and turnover, with 71.19 billion shares worth N1.26 billion changing hands in 687 trades.
