Magodo, Shangisha residents escape death

Some residents of Magodo Phase 2 and Shangisha, Lagos, last week, escaped death in a fatal accident along the Shangisha- Magodo road.
The incident, which took many by surprise, occurred when a commercial bus, popularly known as ‘Danfo,’ suddenly lost its break and plunged into a canal under renovation in the area.
When our correspondent visited the scene of the accident, the commercial bus was thrown inside the canal but for a black container, which held it afloat.
A resident of the area, who identified himself simply as Akeem, told our correspondent that a pregnant woman who was in the bus lost consciousness when the incident occurred.
He explained that the woman and other passengers, who sustained injuries, were immediately rushed to hospital for medical attention.
“The accident took us by surprise. We never knew the vehicle’s break had failed until it plunged into the canal beside our neighbour,” he added.
Also, a journalist, Ola, said it was God that saved him.
He said, “The vehicle was directly behind me while I was going to my office. When I approached the area where the canal was located, I just felt the urge to move a bit faster. To my surprise, less than a minute after that, I heard a noise that came from the driver. The bus lost its break and landed inside the canal.”
Though it was said that the bus crushed a woman and her daughter who were in the container, our correspondents later gathered that the woman, who is popularly known as Eleha, was not in the shop as at time of the incident.
“It was a pure lie. Eleha was not in the shop when the bus rammed into the container and fell into the canal. It was God that made her not to come shop today, if not, it would have been another story,” said a woman who identified herself simply as Iya Ibeji.
