Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged the Special Reconciliation Committee of the South West Peoples Democratic Party not to hesitate to apportion blame where necessary, in carrying out its assignment.
Makinde gave the advice on Friday in Ibadan, while receiving the Eyitayo Jegede-led committee, set up to resolve the crisis in the Lagos and Osun chapters of the party, in his office.
The governor said it was necessary to resolve the crises in the two states, to ensure the party went into the next elections as a united force.
He said that the committee needed to do its utmost to reconcile all aspirants in the just- concluded state congress and governorship primaries in the two states.
According to him, the committee must explore all avenues that will ensure full and genuine reconciliation.
He said that the committee should be bold enough to call a spade a spade, by telling whoever contributed to the division in the two states so.
Makinde promised to give the committee all the needed support to carry out its assignment.
Earlier, Jegede, said that the committee’s mandate was to end all rifts and disagreements within the party in the region, especially in Lagos and Osun states.
He pledged the sincerity of his members, describing them as men of integrity.
Jegede assured Makinde that the committee would do a thorough job and make sure that true reconciliation of all warring factions was achieved.
“We are preoccupied with the responsibility of reconciling some contending factors and forces within our party in Lagos and Osun states.
“Our assignment basically will take us to the states, but we need to start from here because the zonal office is here in Ibadan.
“And we need to also let you know as a leader in the party and to seek your support.
“We are hopeful that we will be able to talk to our members,” Jegede said.
The committee, earlier, had its inaugural meeting at the party zonal office at Osuntokun Avenue, Bodija, Ibadan.
Members of the zonal working committee were in attendance.
Among the attendees were Jegede (chairman); Kayode Adaramodu (Secretary), National Vice Chairman, South West – Olasoji Adagunodo; Zonal Secretary, South West – Rahman Owokoniran and
the zonal legal adviser – Monsuru Kukoyi.
