A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State, has ordered the remand of a 42-year-old man, Friday Elijah, for allegedly raping a mentally retarded teenage girl.
Elijah was accused of having carnal knowledge of the 16-year-old girl, identified as Ayisat Tiamiyu, inside a school in Osogbo.
The defendant, according to police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, committed the offence on October 23, at night.
Olusegun stated that Elijah was in the habit of defiling teenage girls inside an uncompleted building situated at the Adventist High School, Ayetoro, Osogbo.
The charge against the defendant read that “You (Friday Elijah), aged 42, on October 23, 2021 at about 9pm at the Adventist High School, Ayetoro Area, Osogbo, Osun State, did conduct yourself in a manner to cause breach of peace by tuning an uncompleted building to a place where you unlawfully have carnal knowledge of female teenagers.
“That Elijah, at the same place, time and date, did have unlawful carnal knowledge of a 16-year-old girl, one Ayisat Tiamiyu.”
Olusegun stated that the accused person committed offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 249(D) and 360 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The defendant, who had no legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the two counts leveled against him.
Magistrate O. A. Daramola ordered that Elijah should be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till November 23 when the court would consider whether he should be admitted to bail or not.
