Man arraigned for stealing Bible, cash during church vigil  

A twenty five-year-old man, Tope Dunsin, has been accused of entering a church during a vigil and stealing a copy of the Bible, phone and cash.

 

Dunsin, who was arraigned before Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji of an Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court in Osun State, was later arrested after church members raised the alarm over the disappearance of their belongings.

 

Police prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 16, 2019 around 3:50am at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Moremi, Iloro, Ile-Ife.

 

Abdullahi said that the defendant entered the church during the vigil and carted away handbag, Nokia 215 handset, OAUTHC I.D. card and a bunch of house keys.

 

Dunsin was also accused of stealing one copy of the Holy Bible and cash sum of N53, 000. All the items allegedly stolen by the defendant were valued at N63,000, property of a church member, Ajayi Adebimpe.

 

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge preferred against him.

 

The defence counsel, Mr. Bonaventure Olatoye, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal terms and promised that his client would not abuse the bail if granted.

 

Magistrate Olatunji granted Dunsin bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

 

Olatunji added that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, reside within the court’s jurisdiction and that one of them must possess three years tax clearance.

 

The matter was adjourned till March 16 for hearing.
