Man docked for collecting N355, 000 under false pretense

Men of the Area ‘B’ Police Division, Apapa, have brought a 42-year-old man, Wisdom Obi Asiegbu, before an Apapa Magistrate Court for allegedly receiving the sum of N355, 000 from his victim under false pretense.

The accused person was brought to court by an Investigative Police Officer (IPO), Sgt Elijah Isoh.

The prosecutor, Inspector Feddy Asu, while reading the three-count-charge against Asiegbu, said the accused person and one Daniel conspired to carry out the illegality.

The IPO said Asiegbu and Daniel, “conspired to steal contrary to Section 411 and punishable under Section 412 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The second count said the duo “did obtain the sum of N355, 000 (three hundred and fifty five thousand naira) from one Mr Chibozor Mbaegbu with pretense of supplying him a truck to convey his goods which is false thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria,
2015.”

In the third count, the accused persons were accused of stealing the sum of N355, 000 contrary to Section 287 (5) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria,
2015.

Asiegbu pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. M.O. Olubi, granted bail to the accused person in the sum of N100, 000.00 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate said the sureties must have three years tax clearance with evidences of identification and valid addresses.
