Man docked for obstructing arrest of driver, vehicle

30- year- old man has been arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for obstructing the arrest of an erring driver and the confiscation of his vehicle.

The accused person, Mohammed Abdulahi, who pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge was said to have caused obstruction to other road users.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo said Abdulahi of number 12, Ojo Road, Ibadan, Oyo State, is the manager in charge of one DAF truck with registration number ZAMFARA GUSX.

In the first count charge, Abdulahi allegedly caused the driver of the truck, identified simply as Mustapha, to escape along the Oshodi /Apapa expressway, Lagos State.

According to the first charge, Abdullahi “did permit the escape of the driver and the vehicle and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 108 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The second count charge also read, “You, Muhammed Abdullahi ‘m’ and others now at large, on the same date, time and place at the aforementioned magisterial district  did conspire and attempt to pervert justice, escaping with the vehicle and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section  97 of the criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge preferred against him.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. N.A. Layeni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000.00 with one surety in like sum.
