Man docked for stealing 31 bags of rice, N147,000 cash

A 34-year-old man, Chidiebere Maduka, has been arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for stealing 31 bags of rice and a cash sum of N147, 000 at the Young Shall Grow Park, Maza-Maza, in Lagos State.

The accused, Maduka, was brought to court by Inspector Lekan Afolabi attached to the Satellite Police Station.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that Maduka and others at large did conspire among themselves “to commit felony to wit; stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

In the second count charge, the prosecutor said that the accused person and others now at large “did steal thirty bags of rice valued at N527, 000.00 and a cash sum of N147, 000.00 , total value of stolen goods worth N674, 000.00, property of one Alphonsus Onyekwere ‘M’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The accused person, Maduka, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge preferred against him.

The Presiding Magistrate, A.S. Okubule, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two responsible sureties.
