Man jailed 3 months for stealing recharge cards

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, has sentenced a 23-year-old man, Akeem Ali, to three months imprisonment for stealing recharge cards.

Police prosecutor, Adeoye Kayode, earlier told the court that Ali stole recharge cards, engine oil and an MP3 musical device on January 12, 2020 at about 2:30am at the Okefia Area of Osogbo.

The convict pleaded not guilty to the one count-charge preferred against him by the police.

Kayode, while presenting the facts of the matter to the court, explained that Ali burgled a shop and stole engine oil, MP3, MTN, GLO, Etisalat and Zain recharge cards.

He said the total value of the stolen items was three hundred and thirty thousand naira (N330,000.00), adding that they belonged to one trader, Okunola Mutiu Olaide.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravened Section 383 and punishable under Section 390 (B) (b) of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Volume 11, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

Delivering her judgement, Magistrate A. A Awodele found Ali guilty as charged and convicted him accordingly.

Awodele then sentenced the convict to three months imprisonment.
