A High Court sitting in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, has sentenced a 47-year-old-man, Monday Nwode, to seven years imprisonment for swindling his boss of N2, 270,000.

The court, presided over by Justice Iheanacho Chima, convicted Nwode having found him guilty of collecting the alleged sum of money from his boss, Amos Okoro, under false pretense, during his (Amos) lifetime.

The convict was said to have collected the said money in 2015 as a loan but broke the agreement to refund it.

Following the convict’s refusal to repay the loan to his boss who died months after, the wife of the deceased, Ada Okoro, dragged Amos to court in a bid to get justice.

The Point gathered that Nwode obtained the loan from the Okoro while they were engaging in scrap business at Nkwegu in Abakaliki.

It was learnt that Mrs. Okoro, after the death of her husband, lodged a complaint with the police, leading to Nwode’s arrest as a result of his failure to refund the loan.

The complainant alleged that the convict was responsible for her husband’s death in order to evade payment of the said borrowed money.

After listening to the two parties in the matter, Justice Chima found Nwode guilty as charged and sentenced him to 7 years imprisonment.

The court also ordered him to refund the N2, 270,000 to the widow.
