A 43-year-old man identified as Kazeem, from the Edun area of Ilorin, Kwara State, tragically lost his life last Friday after allegedly consuming a hard drug known as “Colo” (Colorado) and jumping into a well.
Sources revealed that the incident occurred shortly after Kazeem returned home from the Eid prayers in the morning. Under the influence of the substance, he reportedly jumped into a domestic well located at Alapo Compound, Edun, Ilorin.
Men of the Kwara State Fire Service were swiftly dispatched to the scene following a distress call.
The spokesman of the service, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday.
“The distress call was received by our control room at about 10:29 a.m., reporting that a man had fallen into a well,” Adekunle said.
“Our firefighters were immediately mobilized and successfully recovered the lifeless body of the victim from the well.”
He added that the deceased, identified as Kazeem, had allegedly taken a hard substance known as “Colo” shortly before the incident occurred.
The recovered body was handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the ‘C’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Ilorin, while the Ministry awaits formal identification and claim of the body by the victim’s family.
Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, used the occasion to warn members of the public against drug abuse, stressing that substance misuse often leads to preventable and tragic outcomes.
