For allegedly stealing a gold necklace worth N281,000, a 24-year-old-man, Peter Ajisafe, is currently cooling his heels in custody at the Ilesa Correctional Centre in Osun State.

Ajisafe was arraigned at an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court by the police for allegedly burgling and stealing the necklace at a shop.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Fagboyinbo Abiodun, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence at the Osogbo Grammar School area, Osogbo, on March 26, 2021, at about 2pm.

According to him, the stolen gold chain is the property of a trader, Folorunsho Temitope.

Abiodun also told the court that Ajisafe, on May 25, 2021, at about 2pm, in the same neighborhood, attempted to steal some of the complainant’s clothes.

The offences are contrary to Section 383 and punishable under sections 390(9) and 609 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count-charge. His counsel, Kehinde Adepoju, urged the court to grant bail to his client with an assurance that he would not jump bail.

Magistrate A. O. Daramola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in the same amount.

The magistrate further ruled that one of the sureties should be a civil servant not below grade level 12 while the other should be a house owner within the jurisdiction of the court.

The defendant was remanded in prison custody for his inability to perfect the bail conditions, and the matter was adjourned till March 21 for hearing.
