Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have arrested a married man, Miftau Ismaila, for allegedly raping a teenage girl in Ikirun, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State.

Ismaila reportedly defiled the 16-year-old girl (names withheld) inside her room. The Point gathered that the middle-aged man sneaked into the girl’s room around 11:00pm penultimate Wednesday, overpowered her and raped her. The suspect, who also lives with his wife within the same 10-room apartment, allegedly abandoned his wife and stealthily sneaked into the girl’s room before she could lock the door from behind.

The victim, a Junior Secondary School student (JSS1) in Ikirun, lives with her guardian, Mr Kamil Adedeji, a neighbour of the suspect. She was said to have opened up to her guardian about her ordeal in the hands of Ismaila before Adedeji eventually reported the case to the NSCDC in the town. The suspect was immediately arrested for questioning. Adedeji, in an interview with The Point, said he wanted justice for the girl, saying such heinous crime should not go unpunished.

When contacted, the Acting Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed that Ismaila was arrested and that he had been brought to the corps headquarters in Osogbo for further investigation. She said the victim was also invited to write her statement and undergo necessary medical examination to establish her claim. Adeleke said the suspect would be prosecuted if found culpable at the end of the investigation.
