A 23-year-old man, simply identified as Frank Udochi, has been nabbed by a Special Squad of the Nigeria Police for allegedly robbing guests at separate wedding receptions in Ifitedunu town of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the squad had been on the trail of Udochi after he allegedly carted away phones, bags and souvenirs belonging to some people who attended a wedding ceremony recently before his eventual arrest.

Some of the security agents were said to be around the venue of wedding reception last week when some guests raised the alarm of missing items.

The suspect, who was sighted bolting away, was chased and apprehended by the squad officials.

Udochi was almost mobbed by angry guests but for the intervention of the security operatives in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Confessing to the allegations when he was being quizzed by the squad members, Udochi said he had successfully carried out operations at some other social events where he dispossessed guests of their belongings.

He also confessed that he had stolen his parents’ money and phones before leaving the house.

The suspect who said he hails from Ebonyi State, stated, “I have been robbing people since the last two years by attending wedding ceremonies and other parties uninvited. Some times, I put on good clothes and sit with guests. Once they are engrossed in dancing, I start picking their phones, money, bags and other items I can lay my hands on.

“I am sorry for commiting these crimes. I have started stealing since I robbed my parents of their phones and money and left home. I won’t steal again because I am ready to change.”

One of the squad members said the suspect jumped into one Ogbangbe River in the community when he was being chased during one of his criminal activities.

“We had been on his trail since the last one month after we received some complaints that he attended some wedding receptions without invitation and robbed guests. Before he was arrested, we had chased him and could not arrest him after he jumped into the Ogbangbe River,” he said.
