Man presents forged Dubai visa to applicant after collecting N1.5m

A 29-year old agent, Olaniyi Tolulope Samuel has been arraigned at a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, capital of Osun State over alleged visa scam.

Samuel was accused of fraudulently obtaining the sum of N1.5million from a Dubai visa applicant, Oriyomi Adewaga, and presented a forged visa document to her.

Adewaga was said to have approached Samuel to process a Dubai visa for her. Samuel was said to have collected the sum of N700,000,00 from the victim as an advance payment.

After allegedly presenting her with a fake visa, the defendant obtained the sum of N800,000,00 from the applicant.

The charge read, “That you Olaniyi Tolulope Samuel sometimes on 14th day of May 2022 at about 2pm at the opposite of Bovas Filling Station Oge-Oluwa Area Osogbo, did defraud one Oriyomi Adewaga of the total sum (700.000:00) Seven Hundred Thousand Naira, which you claim that you shall process Dubai Visa for her and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and punishable under section 419 of criminal code Cap 34 vol. Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003,
“That you Olaniyi Tolulope Samuel sometimes on 20th day of May 2022 same place, time in the in the aforementioned Magisterial District did forge a Visa document in the name of one Oriyomi Adewaga and thereby committed an offence Contrary to section 465 and punishable under section 467 of criminal code Cap 34 vol. 11Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003

“That you Olaniyi Tolulope Samuel sometimes our 20th day of May 2022 same place, time in the in the aforementioned Magisterial District did obtain the sum of N800,000.00 Eight Hundred Thousand Naira Only from Oriyomi Adewaga and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and punishable under section 419 of criminal code Cap 34 vol. 11 of Osun State of Nigeria.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the accusations. The defence counsel, Tunbosun Oladipupo urged the court to grant him bail in liberal terms.

Sergeant Adepoju Kayode urged the court to take cognisance of the amount involved.

Magistrate Olusola Aluko granted the accused person bail in the sum of N250,000 with one surety in the like sum. The case was adjourned till August 4 for hearing.
