Men of the Osun State Police Command have arrested a 33-year-old-man, Adeleke Hassan, for allegedly stealing and killing a goat.
It was gathered that Hassan stole the animal at Okanla area in Ilobu town around 9am, on November 18, 2022.
The suspect reportedly slaughtered the goat and hauled it in a bag right on the spot. He, however, ran out of luck as he was about to bolt away from the area when a resident noticed stains of blood on the bag that he was carrying.
The suspect allegedly hit the resident, simply identified as Kamorudeen, with an axe on his head when he accosted him.
The man of the underworld bolted away immediately after, but was later caught by the youth of the community as Kamorudeen raised the alarm.
The suspect was dragged to the Ilobu Police Station. After investigation, he was docked at a Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo on two-count-charge of theft and assault.
The charge brought against him read that “Adeleke Hassan, on November 18, 2022 at about 9am at Okanla area, Ilobu, Osun State, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did steal a goat, value unknown, owner unknown, thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State, 2002.
“You, Hassan, on the same day, place and time, did assault one Hamzat Kamorudeen by inflicting injury on his head with an axe and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 355 of Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.”
The accused person did not have legal representation.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Abiodun Fagboyinbo, informed the court that none of the accused person’s relations appeared to identify with him, hence, he would not make himself available if granted bail.
Magistrate A. A. Adeyeba ordered that Hamzat be arraigned at the Magistrate’s Court, Ifon Osun, on November 30, 2022.
Adeyeba ordered that the defendant should be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre.
