Man who escapes from Boko Haram’s den seeks new life, appeals for assistance

middle-aged man, Mr. Mike Kanu, who claimed to have escaped from the hands of the Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, has said that the experience of his kidnap has made his life miserable.

Distraught Kanu is now seeking the assistance of kind-hearted Nigerians to enable him to put the traumatic experience of his kidnap by the Boko Haram insurgents behind him so that he can move on with his life.

Speaking in Lagos, Kanu said he was kidnapped in October 2015 by some Boko Haram insurgents when he was on his way to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, adding that he was with the group till January 2016, when he was told to join a gang that was to attack a church in Chibok village.

He said being a Christian, he was not pleased with such an assignment and that he was able to escape through the help of the pastor of the church they had targeted for the attack.

“When I was called early that Sunday morning that I would be part of a gang that would attack a church, I was very disturbed being a Christian. As others were rejoicing while getting set for the devilish assignment, I was sad and they threatened that if I didn’t cooperate, I would be killed. On getting to the church, I ran to the pastor and informed him of the mission and many of the worshippers dispersed before the bomb exploded. I was also helped by the pastor to escape,“ Kanu said.

Kanu said since his escape, he had found life miserable and that the traumatic experience had continue to torment him till today.

According to him, anytime he remembers the experience in the Boko Haram’s den, he will become sleepless for days.

He said he had tried on his own to forget the experience, but it had become practically impossible.

Kanu, therefore, called on kind hearted Nigerians to come to his aid and assist him in recovering from the traumatic experience of his kidnap by the insurgents.
