May 29 handover date sacrosanct, Buhari insists

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday reiterated his commitment to handing over leadership to an elected president on May 29 next year, saying that his term in office will end on that day in line with constitution.

In a brief remark to Shakib Ben Musa, the Minister of National Education, Pre-School and Sports of the Kingdom of Morocco who visited the State House as Special Envoy of King Mohammed the VI, President Buhari said his term of office will end with the inauguration of a new president in May next year.

He, however, said that he will study the message sent and respond accordingly, giving assurances at the same time that he will continue to cherish and strengthen the very warm and cordial relations between the two countries.

Accompanied by Moha Ou Ali Tagma, the resident representative of the Kingdom in Nigeria, the Special Envoy reiterated to the President the friendship and solidarity of the King, the government and people of Morocco with Nigeria.

In another development, President Buhari is felicitating with the Akarigbo of Remoland, His Royal Highness, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, Torungbuwa II, as he marked his 60th birthday on December 5, 2022.

The President celebrated with the renowned lawyer, Chartered Accountant and financial guru with recognised expertise in Insolvency and Restructuring for bringing his education, knowledge and integrity to bear on Remoland, culminating in his recognition and award of the National Honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic.

“As the 19th Akarigbo also marks the fifth anniversary of his ascension to the throne of his forefathers on Wednesday, December 7, President Buhari rejoices with the Government and people of Ogun State and especially, indigenes of Remoland who have witnessed tremendous peace, progress and development that have characterised Akarigbo’s reign and continue to benefit from his fountain of wisdom.

“The President prays for God’s continued guidance and good health for the esteemed monarch,” the President said in a statement signed his Media Adviser, Femi Adesina.
