Mikel opens up on best-ever game with Chelsea

Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has revealed his best game with the Blues where he plied his trade for 11 years before leaving the Stamford Bridge-based outfit in 2017.

The ex-Super Eagles captain joined the London side in 2006 and donned their jersey for over a decade winning absolutely everything with the Blues.

Obi who won AFCON 2013 with Nigeria lifted the Premier League title two times with Chelsea in 2009/210 and 2014/2015 seasons and of course the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions league title in 2012 with that epic final against Bayern Munich (1-1 draw; 4-3 win on penalties).

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Obi admitted that that game is the best-ever he played with the Blues.

“My best-ever game was Chelsea’s 2012 Champions League final against Bayern,” he said.

“I should have won the man of the match but Didier Drogba obviously came good and saved the day. I have watched that game a few times since.

“There is nothing better than this.”

In addition, Mikel Obi made 372 appearances with Chelsea, scored 6 goals and provided 13 assists. He is regarded as one of the club’s greatest-ever players alongside other African legends the likes of Didier Drogba and Michael Essien, his former teammates.
