The Police in Osun State have dragged a mother and her daughter, Olukemi Akeem and Abike Akeem-Adewumi respectively, before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly stealing over N4 million from a bank in the state.

Adewumi was accused of borrowing the sum of N4, 699,250 from Day by Day Dynamic Global Microfinance Bank between December 2021 and March 2022 at number 24, Oke-Baale area, Osogbo.

The bank consequently arrested Adewumi alongside her mother, who stood in as a guarantor for her, for reportedly defaulting in repaying the loan as scheduled.
They were slammed with three-count-charge bothering on stealing.

The charge against them read that “Olukemi Akeem, on March 27, 2022, at Oke-Baale area, Osogbo, did stand guarantor for one Adewumi Akeem at Day by Day Dynamic Global Microfinance Bank and allowed the suspect to steal the sum of N3, 700,000 only from the company.”

The loan and the interest that accrued stood at N4, 699,250.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, informed the court that the defendants committed offences contrary to Section 383 and punishable under sections 390(9), 516 and 126 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Their counsels, N.O. Salawu and K. Oyedipe, urged the court to admit them to bail in liberal terms following which Magistrate A. A. Adeyeba granted their prayers.

Adewumi was admitted to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties, one of whom the court said must deposit cash sum of N500, 000 at the registry and furnish the court with his bank’s statement of account.

Adewumi’s mother was also granted bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties.

The case of the alleged bank debtor was adjourned till November 11 for mention while that of her mother was slated for hearing on October 24.
