Mudassir and brothers: Quietly achieving so much in business, assisting less privileged

By Ibrahim Garba

Little did people realise that it’s indeed possible to rise and fall and rise again, until this feat manifested in an accomplished businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Mudassir Idris Abubakar.

This strong-hearted youth, determined achiever and committed pacesetter in trade became a billionaire after starting his business with only N500,000 a few years from inception as a textile merchant at the kwari International Textile Market of northern Nigeria.

His business grew wide and big that he became a big employer of labour and a job provider, such that his brothers also became part of his life achievements and beneficiaries, as they occupied management positions in the business conglomerate.

Notwithstanding, Alhaji Mudassir exhibited the virtues of philanthropy, assisting the children of the poor and members of his immediate community through the provision of educational scholarship, capital for small and medium scale businesses, assisting the sick and others.

But as fate would have it, God demonstrated in him a wonder that disabused the minds of those who assumed that it’s only through government that one could amass wealth, a wrong notion that has killed the ethics of political will in the country and pushed people into looting public funds in a desperate attempt to get rich quick.

His own wealth grows like grass without recourse to fat government contracts.

The wonder of God was that of the crash of his business to an extent that he had nothing any longer and had to start again from the scratch.

But with the inherent will and commitment to God, he resurfaced at even a higher level than he was in a comeback he commenced with the same paltry N500,000, again.

He has successfully built a new business empire that has created in him a benchmark for others to learn from. With these achievements, definitely Alhaji Mudassir Idris Abubakar is indeed a silent business wonder in Nigeria.

It will be recalled that Mudassir recently empowered over 200 indigent students in Kano State with scholarships.

He explained that 116 out of the beneficiaries were undergraduate students, while the remaining were supported to enroll into postgraduate programmes.

The student-beneficiaries were drawn from all the tiers of the country’s educational system.

He promised that the gesture would not be restricted to only tertiary institutions in the state but will be extended to all indigent students from the state studying in various institutions across the country.

Mudassir told reporters that the scholarships being awarded were purely meant for students that secured admissions into tertiary institutions, but couldn’t pay the registration fees.

“Both applications, selections and verification will be carried out through a local committee,” he said.

The textile guru, who, however, declined to reveal how much it cost him to keep the beneficiaries in school, said that he felt fulfilled seeing people shedding tears of joy after being empowered by Mudassir and Brothers.

Mudassir disclosed that he floated the scholarship scheme as a way of appreciating God, who had been so good to him, adding, “It is a thing of joy for me to see students who would have dropped out of school becoming successful professionals.”

He urged the affluent to always remember the less privileged in the society.

Most of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the scholarship offered to them by the business tycoon, noting that they would not disappoint him while undergoing their studies.

It was also learnt that some of the beneficiaries would undergo foreign studies for their first degree and masters.

Apart from educational assistance, Mudassir & Brothers also contribute towards curbing the menace of social vices through the provision of job opprtunities and engaging in many reformatory projects aimed at making the youth exemplary leaders of the country.
