N3bn released to commission is mockery-DESOPADEC contractors

The N3billion recently released to the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission by the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration has been described as a mockery of commitment by the agency’s contractors.
DESOPADEC contractors are said to be owed billions of naira by the state government.
A principal official of the commission, who confirmed the recent release of the N3billion by the governor, told our correspondent, under the condition of anonymity, that the contractors had been making overtures to the agency’s management to get some chunk, knowing that the money released would not be enough to offset the debts owed contractors.
He further said that the contractors were anxious to know how they could be paid, adding that the anxiety stemmed from the realisation that the N3billion was not “near enough” if devoted entirely to settling the indebtedness of the agency to contractors.
