N500m debt: Court, Zamfara on collision course over auction of govt property

itting in Gusau has drawn a battle line with the Zamfara State Government over the execution of a N502million debt judgement against the state government.

The court had on January 20 ruled in favour of the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria in a case it filed over a debt of over N502 million against the state government.

The court, therefore, ordered the seizure of the state government’s property, which should be disposed at public auction.

Although the first phase of the auction went on smoothly in the first week of February, the second phase met with resistance as the state government was alleged to have ordered its officials to move some of the vehicles slated for the auction to the Government House.

Sources said that the state government drafted armed policemen to stop the auction, an action viewed as a clear contempt of court.
