NAKSS demands withdrawal of soldiers from Kwara poly

The National Association of Nigeria Students have demanded the immediate withdrawal of men of the Nigerian Army from Kwara state polytechnic, Ilorin.
The pressure group also asked the state government to settle the 14 months salary areas owed lecturers of the state’s college of Education Oro, and back log of bursary allowances owed indigent students of kwara state since 2012.
The students who stormed the press centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ilorin yesterday to express their grievances in an address read  by the association’s vice president Comrade, Dosunmu Kamal Ishola ,gave the management of the institution up till the last working day of the year 2016, to disengaged the soldiers .
They observed that the continued presence of soldiers who dratted to keep watch on students on the campus was Illegal and uncivil.
‘‘The invasion and occupation of the Kwara polytechnic campuses by men of the Nigerian Army is unknown to law, ultra vires, illegal and uncivil, they have only come to dehumanise and distort the sanctity of an environment which is fashioned to thrive on divergent plethora of reasoning.
‘‘Not even in the Boko-Haram ravaged North-East do soldiers have the kind of powers of molestation, dehumanization and open display in the campus’’.
The students’ body also cautioned the managements of the polytechnic against interfering in the activities of the students union government of the polytechnic even as they demanded the reinstatement of comrade Imam-Murtador Olarewaju, the expelled welfare secretary of kwara state polytechnic, Ilorin.
While calling for the state’s government to redeem its pledged to offset students bursary allowance as soon as the financial situation of the state, the students body said doing so will cushion the effect of the economic recession on affected students and their parents.
