The National Library of Nigeria has said it will target pregnant women in its next readership promotion campaign as part of its plans to cover every section of the Nigerian society.
National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library, Prof. Lenrie Aina, disclosed this in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, during the readership promotion campaign that took place in the state.
Aina said that the purpose of taking the campaign to the pregnant women was to make them aware of the importance of reading books to their young children.
“By the time the babies get to kindergarten and nursery school age, they would have imbibed the culture of reading. In order to achieve this, we will endeavour to partner with state public libraries to create special corners in their libraries, where we would supply books targeted at toddlers up to five year-old children,” he said.
