Kogi, Lagos, and Rivers are the most expensive states in Nigeria in December, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
The NBS November Consumer Price Index released on Monday showed that the All-Items Inflation rate is the highest in the three states.
The nation’s inflation rate climbed to 28.92 per cent – the highest in 21 years.
While the food inflation rate was 33.93 per cent (it was 32.84 per cent in November)
The report noted that Kogi State took the lead as the most expensive state in Nigeria for December 2023.
The report revealed an uptick in all-items inflation, reaching 35.6 per cent, up from 33.3 per cent in the previous month.
Following closely, Lagos secured the 2nd position for the second consecutive month, registering an all-items inflation rate of 32.3 per cent, mirroring the figures from the previous month.
The food inflation rate in Lagos experienced a marginal rise, reaching 39.3 per cent compared to November’s 39.2 per cent.
Maintaining its position as the 3rd most expensive state, Rivers State reports an all-items inflation rate of 32.1 per cent, showing a slight decrease from the 32.2 per cent recorded in November.
The food inflation rate has reduced to 38.6 per cent, compared to November’s 40.2 per cent.
The NBS said the escalating food prices have been compounded by security issues in agricultural areas and increasing transportation expenses, along with other contributing factors.
“On a Month-on-Month basis, however, in November 2023, food inflation was highest in Cross River (4.37 per cent), Edo (3.95 per cent) and Rivers (3.91 per cent), while Anambra (0.63 per cent), Oyo (0.91 per cent) and Bauchi (1.00 per cent) recorded the slowest rise in inflation on a Month-on-Month basis.”
