NDLEA intercepts bandits, seizes heavy weapons in Katsina, Benue

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested three alleged armed bandits and recovered from them three AK 47 rifles among other dangerous items in Katsina State while on an attack mission.

Spokesman of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, who made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday, identified the suspected armed bandits as Adamu Shehu, Tukur Mohammed and Ibrahim Suleiman.

According to Babfemi, the NDLEA operatives while on patrol in Malumfashi LGA of Katsina on Thursday, arrested the bandits on their way from Igabi LGA of Kaduna state to Kankara LGA in Katsina for another devilish mission.

“A Toyota Corolla car with registration number Kaduna TRK 149 AE, three AK 47 rifles with magazines and ammunition, different types of charms, rings, cash and other items were recovered from them. I have since directed they be handed over to the Army Brigade in Katsina for further investigation,” it stated.

The Agency explains that the development comes following the recent arrest of heavy weapon manufacturer, Celestine Chidiebere Christian, “with a high calibre G3 rifle along with seventy-eight (78) rounds of life ammunition (RLA) of 7.62mm calibre and five empty shells of same in Benue while trying to move the heavy weapon and ammunition to Jos, Plateau state.”

Speaking on the transfer of the high calibre weapon manufacturer to the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja, Gen. Marwa disclosed that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday in a bus belonging to CHI-Boy Transport Company, which he claimed ownership of, enroute Onitsha to Jos at Aliade check-point for search.

While commending the Katsina and Benue state commands for their vigilance and unrelenting commitment to the mandate of ridding the country of illicit substances and activities of criminal gangs, Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) assured that the NDLEA will not relent in its efforts in assisting other security agencies to restore law and order across the country.
