Neighbours discover decomposing bodies of parents macheted to death by son in Anambra

Residents of Abubo Nnewichi town in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State were on Thursday evening thrown into panic when the decomposing bodies of a couple were discovered in their apartment.

Eyewitnesses’ account revealed that the deceaseds’ only son, an undergraduate of a university in the state, allegedly killed them and fled the house.

They said neighbours had started perceiving an offensive odour oozing out of the victims’ apartment, before they approached the house and discovered the bodies of the man and his wife lying in their sitting room.

A resident in the area informed The Point that the deceased father, simply identified as Inongi Igwebuogwu, was an aluminum fabricator in the community.

The source who didn’t disclose his name, said the both parents were discovered lifeless as dry stains of blood littered the sitting room.

“Some of their (deceased couple) neighbours said they saw their only son around the house on Tuesday. I was part of those who visited the house. The elder sister of the boy who has run away, visited to see the corpses of her parents. There is tension in Abubo Nnewichi town after the news went round. The youths have also mobilised in search of the boy,” the source said.

In a video the source made available to The Point, sympathisers and relatives of the victims were seen at the frontage of their ancient building while others were seen covering their noses owing to the stench from the decaying bodies.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the killing of the couple.

In a statement made available on Friday, Ikenga said Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the university undergraduate adding that the decomposing bodies were found on Thursday evening.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, while describing the discovery of the already decomposing dead bodies in an apartment in Nnewi on 22/9/2022 at about 5:20pm with machete cuts, as act of man’s inhumanity to man.

“He has ordered immediate manhunt of the suspect. He further directs immediate transfer of the case to State Criminal investigation department for discreet investigation,” the statement read.

The PPRO said the decomposing bodies have been recovered and deposited to the morgue.
