Netflix has revealed yet another rise in its subscription fees in Nigeria, signifying the streaming service’s initial price change in 2025 and the third one since 2024.
Based on the revised pricing information on the company’s website, the Premium Plan is now priced at N8,500 each month, an increase from N7,000 representing a 21.43% rise.
The most recent change has also impacted other plans.
The Standard Plan, which supports multiple screens and offers HD resolution, has increased by 18.18%, from N5,500 to N6,500.
The Basic Plan used to cost N3,500, but now it costs N4,000, a 14.29% increase.
Netflix’s Mobile Plan, which offers limited access on smartphones and tablets, has also seen a price hike, rising from N2,200 to N2,500, representing a 13.64% increase.
The company had previously raised subscription rates twice in 2024 first in April, then again in July.
At the time, Netflix attributed the increases to its global strategy to support a growing catalog of original and licensed content.
“As we invest in and improve Netflix, we’ll occasionally ask our members to pay a little extra to reflect those improvements,” the company said in a letter to shareholders.
“This helps drive the positive flywheel of additional investment to further improve and grow our service,” it added.
Although Netflix did not specifically mention inflation as a reason for the 2025 adjustment, the company acknowledged that “price changes respond to local market conditions, including taxes and inflation.”
The latest hike comes as streaming platforms face increasing pressure to balance affordability with content investment in a highly competitive global market.
