New Act: Ayo Jay: From EbuteMetta to Sony Music

Being signed to Sony Music RCA did not come as a shock to Ayoola Ogundeji, better known as Ayo Jay. He has been working hard and knew it was a matter of time before he got international recognition.

He, however, told The Point that he was filled with joy and pride when the Sony deal came through.

He said, “It may have surprised many people, but it didn’t entirely surprise me or my team as we had major goals to break into the industry in the United States and establish my sound and the Afrobeats genre. I also felt and still feel a sense of responsibility to make our kind of music and sound popular in the United States and around the world.”

Presently working on his first EP, ‘Coming To America,’ Ayo Jay admits that the success of his single, ‘Your Number,’ in the United States has really opened doors for him, including signing to a world renowned record label, Sony RCA.

He opens up that there was stiff competition to sign him due to interest from other labels like 300, Interscope, and Columbia but RCA had the most ideal plan for him and showed more belief and desire in wanting to promote his new sound.

“I’m glad to be where I am today. When I initially l e f t Ebute Metta for New York, it was to go to school, get a degree, and earn a living with it. I was able to get that degree and here I am also.”
