NGWF campaigns against drug abuse

The Northern Governors Wives Forum (NGWF) is waging war against drug abuse and addiction in their respective states.

Hadiza stressed that the forum is aware of the danger of drug

addiction that is becoming very rampant among the youth of the

Northern Region of the country, adding that the steps taking to mitigate the menace of the trend in the region include establishment of drug control committees, drug community volunteer scheme, skills acquisition centers and provision of female rehabilitation wings in some
states.

Hajiya Hadiza who disclosed this while flagging off drug control and intervention program in Bauchi State, sponsored by her office, in collaboration with the state’s Ministry of Social Welfare, Youths and Sports, noted that the northern governor’s wives have now made substance abuse their priority intervention projects.

Speaking during the occasion, the State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, represented by his Deputy, Audu Sule Katagum, commended Hajiya Hadiza for championing the program, lamenting that drug abuse has become worrisome in the society in view of its grave consequences, such as youth delinquencies, crimes rate, violence, mental disorders and erosion of societal values.

“It is important to make this clarion call and to caution them not to waste away their lives on drugs and harmful substances, because no matter where you come from, you can always go to great height if the mind and the body are healthy,” he cautioned.

The governor called on all stakeholders to join hands together with the government to address the root causes of the menace and curb drugs abuse and trafficking in illegal substances in the
state.
