Nigerian arrested in India over knife attack

At least 8 people have been injured, with one person in critical condition, after a Nigerian in India attacked civilians with a knife near Churchgate area of South Mumbai on Wednesday.

Confirming the incident, Commissioner of Police, South Mumbai, Dilip Sawant, said the incident took place at Tata Garden near Parsi Well.

The police said the 50-year-old Nigerian, identified as John, was sitting with a woman, when he suddenly got up, pulled out his knife and started attacking passersby.

Officials added that after receiving the information on the incident, the police reached the spot and arrested the man and disarmed him.

A video that has surfaced across social media platforms showed blood stains on the road where the incident took place while those injured were taken to a government hospital for treatment.

The police also disclosed that the suspect has been taken to the Azad Maidan police station, and an FIR will be registered in this regard, while investigation is ongoing to ascertain the reason behind the attack.
