Nigerian conman posing as American soldier to defraud love-struck women jailed

A United Kingdom based 37-year-old Nigerian conman, Tosin Femi Olasemo, who usually posed as an American Soldier serving in Afghanistan, has been sentenced to four-and-a-half-year jail term by a Cardiff Crown Court.
Before the long arm of the law caught up with the fraudster, he had successfully defrauded two women of more than £250, 000, using the fake name, Captain Morgan Travis.
Checks revealed that Olasemo had used the photograph of a uniformed soldier by the name Captain Morgan Travis, as his profile photo on the dating site, match.com, without the knowledge of the real owner of the name.
The duped women later complained to the authorities, which swung into action. The lid of his cover was later blown off, following an ambush laid for the fraudster, which he leisurely walked into after several months of fruitless efforts.

Upon his arrest, the black-ebony Nigerian, who confessed to the crime by admitting to his interrogators that he was a frontline fraudster, added that he was used by the devil to perpetrate the act after all.
Olasemo said, “I admit that I am a dupe. I defrauded people on match.com dating site. It was the devil that led me to do it”. It was revealed that Olasemo had links to a Nigerian bank account containing more than 150,000 Pounds sterling.

It was further revealed that he had land purchased in Nigeria for about 47,000 Pound sterling; and was found in possession of more than 1,100 Pound Sterling, when he was
arrested.
Sources advanced further that the con-artist promised to sell off Nigerian property to off-set the ill-gotten money. Meanwhile, at his arraignment at the Cardiff Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to the charges. The court consequently ordered him to pay back the money, and serve four-and-half years jail term.
The convict, Olasemo, risks serving a further two-and-half years in jail if he failed to pay. In other words, it means that, he had recklessly violated Proceeds of Crime Act.
According to the British Court, “The convict will be deported from the UK whenever he is released”.
