Nigerian youth jailed five years for stealing doors, windows

A 21-year-old man, Ife Odekunle, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for stealing window glasses and wooden doors.

Odekunle, tried before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court by the Osun State Police Command, pleaded guilty to all the allegations leveled against him.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode informed the court that the accused person and others said to be at large, broke into a resident’s house and carted away windows and doors.

According to the prosecutor, Odekunle broke into the house of one Biliaminu Olaiya on September 19, 2023 at about 1:00pm at Goke Omigbodun Junction, G.R.A., Osogbo, Osun State.

The accused person allegedly stole eight aluminum window glasses and seven wooden doors total valued at N694, 000:00, property of Olaiya.

“That you Ife Odekunle and others at large on the same date and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district did maliciously damage eight aluminum window glasses valued Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N600,000.00) only, property of one Biliaminu Olaiya and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 451 of the Criminal Code CAP 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002,” the charge partly read.

Kayode said the defendant committed offences contrary to 383 and punishable under sections 516, 411 and 390(8)(b) of the laws of the state.

The defendant pleaded guilty to all the charges. He has no legal representation.

After the prosecutor presented the facts of the matter and showed exhibit to the court, Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba found Odekunle guilty of the four count-charges and sentenced him accordingly.

For the first count, Adeyeba sentenced the convict to six months imprisonment each for the charges of conspiracy and burglary and jailed him two years each for theft and unlawful damage. The sentence is to run concurrently.
