A total of nine generals in the Nigerian Army have retired from service.
The generals are from the finance corps of the service.
The retired generals are Maj. Gen. AO Adetayo (retd), Maj. Gen. J.E Jakko (retd), Maj. Gen. A. R Bakare (retd), Maj. Gen. A. B. Adamu (retd), Brig. Gen. N. L. Isama (retd), Brig. Gen. O. F. Ohunyeye (rtd), Brig. Gen. O.A Adenuga (retd) and Brig Gen II Adamu (retd).
No fewer than 113 generals from the Nigerian Army retired on December 19, 2023, bringing the total number of generals who retired within a month to 122.
A statement on Sunday by the Director, Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu said a Passing Out Parade was held in honour of the senior officers on Friday.
It partly read, ” The Nigerian Army Finance Corps had earlier honoured nine of its senior officers in a Pulling Out Parade organized to honour retired and senior officers of the Corps on Friday 12 January 2024.
“The retired senior officers honoured in the Pull Out Parade are Maj. Gen. AO Adetayo (retd), Maj. Gen. J.E Jakko (retd), Maj. Gen. A. R Bakare (retd), Maj. Gen. A. B. Adamu (retd), Brig. Gen. N. L. Isama (retd), Brig. Gen. O. F. Ohunyeye (rtd), Brig. Gen. O.A Adenuga (retd) and Brig Gen II Adamu (retd).
“The Nigerian Army Finance Corps WASA 2023 featured rich cultural performances by different cultural troupes, a tug of war between female soldiers and soldiers’ wives, presentation of awards to outstanding soldiers and prizes to performing cultural troupes.”
Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja assured that the troops’ welfare and well-being remain his priority.
According to the statement he spoke at the Nigerian Army Finance Corps West African Social Activities marking the end of the year 2023 in Lagos on Saturday
“To boost troops’ morale and fighting spirit, the Chief of Army Staff ( reiterated his commitment to the welfare and well-being of Nigerian Army personnel and that of their families, under his watch.
“Describing welfare as the number one pillar upon which Sound Administration rests in his Command Philosophy, the COAS, reassured troops that their welfare tops the priority of his agenda for the NA. He pledged that he will not fail to improve troops’ welfare at every opportunity, ” the statement added.
Lagbaja urged the troops to be on the lookout as more efforts to improve the standard of living accommodation across NA’s barracks and cantonment would become visible in the new year.
The COAS promised to work in consonance with Mr President’s stringent financial measures to curb wastage in order to revamp the country’s ailing economy.
