‘No fake Amstel Malta in circulation’

When in August last year Amstel Malta launched a campaign, ‘WhyAddMore’ and reinforced its place as the Premium Malt Drink, a picture of a fake version of the brand went viral.

The Point later gathered that this was because the new Amstel Malta wore the new NIS logo of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, while the old brand had the old NIS logo.

Also, another offensive video of an Amstel Malta can drink, allegedly containing a strange object went into circulation last year. But the Corporate Affairs Adviser, Nigerian Breweries Plc., Kufre Ekanem, has said that from forensic and marketing analysis, it is very clear that the same source that initially created a video of a purported ‘fake ’ or ‘original’ but who could not sustain the fabrication, was the source responsible for the current orchestration and poor dramatisation of discovery of foreign content.

He claimed all had come from the enemy’s camp, as the recording left many gaps to question the credibility. “For instance, the can was opened before the video recording, thus failing the basic test of validity.”

However, the Standard Organisation of Nigeria has debunked the claims by a faceless video producer of a fake Amstel Malta in circulation.

The Deputy Director of SON, Mr. Fred Akingbesote, who represented the Director General of the organisation, explained to journalists recently in Lagos that Nigerian Breweries had met all their safety and quality requirements and had complied with all requirements of the new National Industrial Standard’s logo.
