NSCDC arrests five suspects for stealing from government construction sites, peddling drugs

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Ebonyi State Command has paraded five suspects arrested for various offences in the state.

The command announced that the suspects were arrested for peddling illicit drugs, stealing tricycles and selling them in other states.

It also disclosed that the suspects stole rods of different sizes from project sites among other offences in the state.

Addressing journalists during a parade exercise at NSCDC headquarters in Abakaliki, the State Commandant, Francis Nnadi who warned miscreants to leave the state or meet waterloo, reaffirmed commitment of the command to increase surveillance and rid the state of all criminal elements.

The commandant who frowned at the level of crime and criminality especially among the youths in the state, urged the citizens to always volunteer timely and credible information on the activities of criminals in their neighborhoods.

Nnadi disclosed that one of the suspects is a registered member of scrap dealers who bought different sizes of rods stolen from Vanco junction and other construction project sites in the state.

According to him, one other suspect from Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state was arrested for having 56kg of Cannabis Sativa.

He said, “The suspect and his younger brother jointly sell the substance and since the family members have warned them severally to stop their illegal activity, they decided to hide the substance. So, when they came and asked for the cannabis, one of the brothers told them openly reminded him the family had asked for a stop of such attitude, consequently refused giving it to him which led to a fight. Coincidentally, NSCDC officials were on patrol in that area and arrested him.”

Responding, the suspect accused of buying stolen rods, Samuel Nwambara disclosed that a government engineer identified as Pascal sold them to him because they are no more useful in the works at the project sites.
