Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osun State have arrested two men for allegedly encroaching on other people’s land to carry out illegal mining activities.
The suspects are Ogunmokun Joshua from a mining community in Iperindo, Atakumosa East Local Government Area of the state, aged 24; and 26-year-old Amos Danjos from Katia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
A statement issued on Tuesday by Adigun Daniel, Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Osun State Command, read that the duo were arrested while carrying out illegal mining activities on December 12, in Iperindo.
The suspects were arrested with their working tools, including a shovel and a power generating set.
“In line with one of the mandates of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to crack down on illegal mining operators in the country, two persons have been arrested for alleged conspiracy, illegal encroachment and illegal mining in Osun State.
“The suspects made a confessional statement.
“Commandant Emmanuel Ocheja, who affirmed that the suspects would be charged to court at the expiration of investigation, warned criminally minded persons in the state to relocate from Osun or face the consequences of their despicable acts,” the statement read.
