No fewer than three officers of the Nigerian Police reportedly lost their lives in a motor accident along the Kubwa-Zuba Expressway, on Sunday, when the tyre of the security patrol van in which they were traveling burst.

It was gathered that the vehicle crashed into a drainage.

Operatives of the Special Tactical Squad of the Police attached to the Force Headquarters were said to have been involved in the accident which occured opposite the Gwarimpa Estate section of the road.

An eye-witness was reported to have said that the three officers died instantly while others sustained various degrees of injuries.

The auto crash was said to have been due to over-speeding.

A witness said, “I was about crossing the road to the other lane when the Police Patrol van, on top speed, suddenly lost control and crashed into the drainage divide, leaving three policemen dead.”

The police officers were said to be heading to Kaduna for a special assignment when the tragedy struck.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the FCT Emergency Management Agency were later seen evacuating the bodies of the victims to an undisclosed hospital.

FCT Police Public Relation’s Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh, who confirmed the incident, stated that it was a sad development pointing out that she did not have details of the number of casualty involved in the accident.
