The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation has clarified that there were no shortfalls in workers’ salaries for January and February 2025, addressing concerns raised by some federal employees regarding recent salary payments.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the OAGF stated that workers’ earnings in the first two months of 2025 reflected their usual salaries, following the conclusion of several arrears payments made in Q4 2024.
“Various salary arrears were paid in the last quarter of 2024, namely: minimum wage arrears, 25%/35% salary increase arrears, and wage award arrears. All these arrears were paid from October to December 2024, which made salaries increase abnormally over the last quarter of 2024,” the statement read.
The OAGF emphasized that once these arrears were exhausted, salaries returned to their usual levels in January 2025, leading to the misconception that there had been a salary reduction.
“Payment of normal salaries after exhausting the various arrears began in January 2025, which made some workers think that they were shortchanged, when in actual sense, it was their real salaries. A glance at the current salary table will substantiate this further,” the statement clarified.
The OAGF also revealed that some workers experienced overpayments in December 2024 due to a system error.
It guaranteed that appropriate adjustments had been carried out and that reductions from impacted wages were currently happening to regain the surplus funds.
Moreover, concerning the payments for promotion arrears, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), pointed out that the procedure is overseen by the standing committee focused on promotions and salary arrears associated with the Budget Office of the Federation (BOF).
“IPPIS has fully paid batches 1 to 6 of promotion arrears and is awaiting more batches from the Budget Office of the Federation for further payment,” the statement added.
The OAGF underlined its commitment to efficiently operating the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and advised employees with legitimate salary concerns to go via formal procedures for speedy resolution.
“Unless there are any additional salary payments owed in the future, the amounts paid in January and February 2025 will remain the salaries until the Federal Government decides to change them,” the statement ended.
Through this clarification, the federal government seeks to alleviate worries among employees and maintain ongoing openness in salary management.
