‘OBJ deserves Tinubu’s tongue-lashing’

The National Deputy Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, has said that the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was right to have chided former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his recent letter advising President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019.

Tinubu had, during his 10th Colloquium to commemorate his 66th birthday in Lagos, made a veiled reference to Obasanjo as a former leader who took delight in bringing others down, especially with his series of “bad belle letters”.

The SDP deputy national chairman maintained that Tinubu’s diatribe against the former president was not out of place.

He added that Obasanjo should always expect such comments against him so long as he held on to his letter writing tradition that was always aimed at portraying other people in bad light.

“Obasanjo too should expect such a thing. If he wouldn’t want such, he too wouldn’t have written such a letter. But if you keep writing such letters, expect such comments from people around you,” Mohammed said.

Speaking in the same vein, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party described both Tinubu and Obasanjo as “unfortunate leaders” Nigeria had been saddled with in this trying period.

The spokesperson for the party in the state, Mr. Gani Taofik, in a chat with our correspondent, said that Obasanjo had got what he deserved from Tinubu, especially against the backdrop of his connivance with the APC against the PDP and former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said, “Both of them are unfortunate leaders of this country. Imagine, initially when they both worked against PDP and former President Goodluck Jonathan, what do you expect to happen to them at last?

“Imagine Obasanjo could stoop so low to be used by them to kick Jonathan and the PDP out then, forgetting that he was the first PDP president in this country. Despite his credible achievements while in government, he allowed himself to be used and started talking against the good work he did while in government then.

“If you remember very well, Obasanjo inherited monumental rot from the military administration, but he was able to put the country back to shape to the extent that the international community was praising him. Instead of him to sit back and enjoy those commendations, he went so low to tear the party’s card and pitch tent with Tinubu and others to rubbish his past achievements, and at the end of the day, look at what befell him. I am not going to hold brief for him; he deserves what he got from them.”
