Odegbami bemoans state of Nigerian hospitals

Former Super Eagles captain, Chief Segun Odegbami, has lamented that most Nigerian hospitals are virtually like mortuaries, promising that if elected governor of Ogun State come next year, he will create a landmark in the health sector.

The ex-footballer is currently in the governorship race on the platform of the Labour Party.

Odegbami who spoke in Abeokuta, the state’s capital, said that unless the government build ultra-modern hospitals and equip them with standard healthcare facilities, the mortality rate would keep
spiralling.

While promising to make good healthcare delivery and sound education his priority if elected, Odegbami expressed the regrets that most of the Nigerian hospitals were in deplorable condition.

He said, “Nigerian hospitals have virtually turned to mortuaries because they lack the necessary facilities needed to save lives. Our government which would be led by Labour Party will provide qualitative healthcare delivery system, by building hospitals where
necessary.

“We will provide necessary facilities for proper care, including drugs and personnel. I believe that only people with sound health can work and even enjoy amenities provided by the government,” he
noted.

The governorship hopeful who cited an instance of his mother died 11 years ago because the doctors lacked the tools to attend to her health, expressed dissatisfaction with the bad states of many hospitals in not only Nigeria but also in Ogun
State.
