Ogun community hands over man to police for bathing with blood

The people of Kotopo Area of Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Thursday, apprehended a 49 year-old man, Ganiyu Shina, for bathing with blood and handed him over to the state police command for investigation.

Shina, who lives at number 4, Oguji street, Obantoko Abeokuta, was said to have confessed to the act carried out at a river in Kotopo community, but said the blood was that of a cow.

A statement by the Ogun State Police Command confirmed the suspect’s arrest, disclosing that the Commissioner of police in the state had directed that the remaining blood which was found with the suspect be taken to laboratory for analysis, to ascertain whether its human blood or not.

It reads, “the suspect was arrested when members of the community sighted him at the river bank, where he parked his Nissan commercial vehicle, came out with local sponge and a container filled with blood and started bathing with it.

“Immediately he discovered that some people are watching him, he took to his heels, but was chased and apprehended by members of the community.

“A call was made to the police at Aregbe divisional headquarters by a member of the community, and the DPO, SP Bunmi Asogbon quickly led the patrol team to the scene, from where the suspect was brought to the station.

“On interrogation, the suspect claimed to have a spiritual problem, and that a herbalist instructed him to perform the ritual. He claimed further the blood in his possession is not human blood, but that of cow.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of police has directed the remaining blood be taken to laboratory to analysis, to ascertain whether its human blood or not.

“The CP also praised members of the community for not taken laws into their hand, he therefore assure them the suspect will be thoroughly investigated.”
