Ogun targets 1.3m children for immunisation

The Ogun State Government says it’s targeting about 1.3 million children within the age range of six months to five years for immunisation in the second round of the Child Health Week for the year 2017.

The  state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, disclosed this known at a press briefing held at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Ipaye said that the Child Health Week, which would be on from December 18 to 22, 2017, would have 1.3 million children in the state immunised and given Vitamin A supplement to boost their immune system.

“We are targeting about 1.3 million children to be immunized and anytime we do this, we also give vitamin A supplementation to boost the immunity of our dear children, so they don’t fall sick easily and are protected against so many childhood killer diseases,” he said.

The commissioner said that the exercise, which would be in partnership with the state government and the Uplift Development Foundation, is a free medical service that would attract no cost.

He said that the event would be inaugurated on December 19, when the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Funsho Amosun, would be leading stakeholders to the Primary Health Centre at Sango in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.

Ipaye, however, urged mothers in the state to present their children for the immunization and nutritional exercise in order to protect them against childhood killer diseases.

“This is calling on our mothers that it is an opportunity for us to immunize children that have not been fully immunized. It is an opportunity for us to deworm, particularly those within the age a of six months and five years,” he said.
